What to Expect

Treatment begins with a diagnostic examination. Depending on the history and symptoms, diagnostic tests will be completed prior to any treatment. At this time treatment options will be discussed with you. Sometimes your general dentist will complete these diagnostic tests in his office and refer you to our office for immediate treatment. Before we begin any endodontic treatment we will retest the suspect tooth to confirm the findings.
Endodontic treatment is very similar to other restorative dental procedures. The entire procedure is completed with little or no discomfort utilizing routine dental anesthesia. Apprehensive patients can use nitrous oxide analgesia (laughing gas) and/or oral sedatives. Over the years our patients have described the actual treatment as 'similar to having a filling done'. We encourage you to call our office for additional information about the actual procedure.

Most people resume their normal schedule immediately following root canal treatment. Just as with any restorative procedure, you will have a numb area in your mouth, but should feel fine to resume your normal activities. You will need to return to your General Dentist for permanent restoration of your tooth. Depending on your tooth structure and existing dental work you may need a crown or just a simple filling. Your General Dentist will advise you what restoration your tooth will need.
